Dear Friends,

This September you are invited to enjoy Scotland’s first Flax and Linen Festival.

Our Linen Stories Festival Exhibition
Open Fridays to Sundays, 10am – 4pm, 3-19 September
This is a truly site specific display of art works, artefacts, crafted items and contemporary design, set within a repurposed Kirkcaldy Linen Factory. We are growing flax in situ, emblematic of this evolving exhibition, and heralding our new Flax Futures collaborations.

Flax Circles: Think Global, Grow Local
Zoom Roundtable, 9 September, online
Regenerative farming, Place-making, Education and Tourism: all cultivated with flax. Hear from practitioners in Finland, N.Ireland, USA, Sweden, England, and Belgium: Scotland in a world of flax fibre and linen.Making Well with Heritage
Twilight Talk, 16 September, in person
Join our Expert Panel and engaged audience ‘on the ground’ in Kirkcaldy Old Kirk to discuss the design of canny interventions which powerfully enable well being. Heritage can reach in to enrich our lives as individuals and community.
Linen Routes and Open Doors
Saturdays and Sundays, 4-19 September
Choose a weekend stroll by heritage and design in Strathmiglo, Falkland, Markinch and Dunfermline. Open Doors with us to meet Susie Redman at Platform Studio, Burntisland, Michael Wolchover and Kate Downie at Birch Tree Studio, Ceres, and our Laundry and Linen Press Damask Display at Auchtertool House. Make your way to the beguiling Silverburn Park for our Flax Mill tour and update on this exciting regeneration project, every Saturday.
In truth, forward planning in a time of uncertainty is a challenge and capacity for indoor events is restricted. Rather than stall, however, the wonderful communities of Fife have embraced the programme, offering venues, events and energy. We also reach out beyond Scotland, with novel displays, creative encounters and our Flax Circles Roundtable.

You can turn up and tune in: register for all events here.

We hope to see you soon,
With best wishes from all the team,
John
